If you’re looking for an honest Prolific review from someone who has actually used the platform – you’re in the right place.
I have taken earned and cashed out hundreds of pounds over the years!
Prolific (formerly Prolific Academic) is one of the most reliable and best-paying research survey platforms in the UK, known for fair pay, no mid-survey screening out and genuinely interesting studies.
But is Prolific worth signing up for in 2026?
How much can you realistically earn?
And how does it compare to alternatives?
Katie’s Summary:
If there was one survey site to rule them all then Prolific would be it. Even if I couldn’t use any other survey sites in conjunction with this one, I’d always choose Prolific. If you’re not signed up, get on the waitlist – you don’t want to miss out.

What is Prolific?
Prolific is an online research platform where universities, academics and companies post paid studies.
Participants (i.e you and me) complete these studies in exchange for cash (either GBP or USD) – not points, vouchers or coins.
Unlike traditional survey sites, Prolific is known for:
- Fair, transparent pay
- No being kicked out halfway through a survey
- High-quality academic research
- Interesting topics and formats
If you only want to sign up to ONE survey platform, Prolific is easily the best choice.

This varies a lot, but most users report:
- £5–£10 per hour (based on projected study times)
- £20–£80 per month for casual users
- £100+ per month for very active users
The more complete your demographic profile, the more studies you’ll be eligible for.
Factors that affect earnings:
- The time of day you’re online
- How fast you accept studies
- Your demographic profile
- Whether you check Prolific regularly
Prolific isn’t a job – but it’s an easy and reliable way to make extra cash at home.

How Prolific Studies Work
When you log in, you’ll see a dashboard of available studies showing:
- Topic
- Estimated time
- Pay
- Pay per hour
- Number of places left
If you want to take part:
- Click Reserve my place (it helps to copy your Prolific ID to your clipboard)
- Click Start study
- Complete the study (you might want to copy the completion code here in case it doesn’t automatically pull through)
- Wait for the researcher to approve it – the study reward will appear in your pending balance straight away.
Most approvals happen within a few hours to a couple of days.
If they don’t approve within 21 days, Prolific pays you automatically.
How Does Prolific Pay You?
You need to reach the £6 payment threshold before you can cash out but you can then cash out instantly via Paypal.
Rewards are displayed in USD and GBP (with the estimated total balance in GBP).
There are no fees for cashing out and due to the low payment threshold, you should be able to cash out quite quickly.

Tips to Get More Prolific Studies
- Install the browser extension or leave a tab open – the homepage refreshes automatically when new studies are added
- Keep your demographic profile 100% complete – prolific will tell you when there are unanswered questions on your profile
- Don’t rush studies – there are concentration tests within some studies to ensure you’re paying attention and your submission can be rejected if they believe you’ve completed it poorly
- Check regularly – if you want to earn regular extra income then you need to be logging in and completing studies frequently

Prolific FAQs
How much do you get paid for Prolific studies?
Prolific strongly endorses the principle of ethical rewards. That is, researchers must reward participants with at least £6.00 / $8.00 per hour, although they recommend participants are paid at least £9 / $12 per hour.
Does Prolific have a referral program?
The referral program is currently unavailable.
What happens if I fail a Prolific attention check?
If the study is 5 minutes or longer, then participants must fail at least two checks to be rejected, any shorter studies use a single failed check to reject.
What happens if you get rejected on Prolific?
Receiving the odd rejection is normal. However, the number of rejections is always weighed up against the number of approved submissions. Participants who receive too many rejections are no longer allowed to take part in studies on Prolific.

I find populas live of a similar quality. Others aren’t much good.
I do like Populus too, it’s just waiting to hit that threshold!
Totally agree. I have been on the site just a few months and have cashed out of £70. I love Prolific.
I wish to cash in the money I have earned on Prolific’s site but cannot remember my password.
Please advise me.
Thanks!
I love Prolific too. I used to do MTurk but it was so much more time consuming. I used to only do Prolific if I got an email but now I log in daily and typically complete multiple ones in a day. I’ve made so much more money during the pandemic because there have been so many COVID related surveys. I love the prescreening and not having to get halfway through a survey only to get screened out. I will say, though, I have got screened out maybe 2 times (which I was surprised because I thought that wasn’t supposed to happen due to prescreening, but I’ve completed over 700 studies so that’s really next to nothing. I also love it because now when I request a payment, it goes to my PayPal immediately.
