Have you ever participated in a market research study before? Perhaps you’ve attended an in person focus group? Market research is a great way to make extra money and whilst many of the opportunities required you to attend an in person study (usually in bigger cities like Manchester, Bristol and London) lots of these are now moving online due to the current pandemic.
Which is great news for those of us who don’t live close to the bigger cities. With many of the interviews and studies now being conducted over Zoom and Skype – all you need is your laptop, an internet connection and a spare hour to take part!
And there is good money to be made! You can make up to £60 an hour – not a bad hourly rate eh? (In some instances – even more!) Obviously you can’t replace a full time job with these, but the opportunities are plentiful and with lots of us being hit financially by the crisis, now is the perfect time to register your interest in these studies and bring home some extra dough!
There are lots of websites out there, but I’m just going to focus on the ones I am registered to and have dealt with personally (or know people who have). You can find lots of other websites out there by heading to google but just remember – you should never be required to part with cash to take part…and if something seems too good to be true then it probably is – so do your research.
Okay, so technically this is a ‘user testing’ platform but I’ve included it because I’ve had some really simple tasks and they pay really quickly too.
They don’t have a login for participants so you won’t be able to browse for opportunities.
Each study which may be suitable is emailed to you with it’s own unique link.
You might not be eligible for all the studies you’re emailed, but it’s worth applying just in case.
And an added benefit is that if you’re not suitable but you know someone who is you can refer a friend and be rewarded.
When a friend uses your link to join TestingTime and successfully participates in the study, you both win: your friend gets paid in full for participating and you earn an extra 50% for referring them (max 50).
People for Research
Sign up and complete your profile and you will be able to browse the current opportunities (and have a look at past opportunities if you like).
As you can see from the above image, studies are remote, UK wide and well paid! £80 by BACS for 60 minutes work? Yes please.
Though based in Manchester, Research Opinions run focus groups around the UK and also have online opportunities.
They seem to have broader requirements than a lot of the other sites which can be quite niche, so there’s something for everyone.
With the current pandemic, all of the studies are now based online and take place via Zoom, Skype or by telephone interview.
If you’re active on Twitter or Instagram, follow them there to keep up to date with the latest available opportunities.
Once registered with Respondent you’ll get access to the screen above where you’ll be able to browse all the available projects.
As you can see, rewards are paid in USD but some of them are really good money!
You can also earn extra on some studies by referring people. A unique referral link will be available on specific studies and if a friend participates in the study you referred them to, the Respondent platform will pay you $50 via PayPal.
Payment is made via PayPal once the referee has been paid at least $75 worth of incentive payments.
You can also earn $20 per generic referral – i.e. someone new signing up to the platform.
Usertribe would be one of those I’d initially be wary of… only because the rewards are often so high.
But, the rewards are high because the study criteria are often very niche and specific.
Still, it’s worth signing up and regularly checking your email. If you do get on one, it’s definitely worth your while.
Most studies are paid in Amazon vouchers, though some are paid in USD to PayPal.
You can also make a good amount from referring friends if you know someone who is eligible for a study. Just forward the email on to them and ask them to mention your email address as a referrer.
