Boots Recycling Scheme

From Thursday 24th September 2020, Boots will be trialing a new recycling scheme where you will be rewarded with Advantage Points in exchange for empty beauty products from ANY brand.

Sounds good right? Well as with any of these kinds of systems, there are terms and conditions.

And as it is currently being run as a trial, who knows how long it’ll be around for.

But here’s everything you need to know to do your bit for the environment and earn rewards in the process!

What is the Boots Recycling Scheme?

Boots are trialing a recycling scheme where customers can bring in a minimum of 5 empty products – regardless of brand or where they were originally purchased from, and recycle them instore in exchange for advantage card points.

These products can be beauty, health, wellness or dental products which cannot be recycled at home – so you need to check with your local council as to what they accept in their kerbside recycling service. Any packaging they don’t recycle? Take it along to Boots.

How do I sign up?

You’ll be sent a confirmation code which you can then use to log in.

You need to also ensure you’re signed up for an Advantage Card (if you aren’t already).

How does it work?

Take your items to a participating store and find the recycling point.

  • Go to and log in
  • Click ‘Scan a product’
  • Take a photo of your empty packaging
  • Search the brand name in the list
  • Search the product type
  • Add it to your bank
  • Repeat for all items
  • Click Deposit
  • Scan the QR code on the recycling box and deposit your items to get your reward points

The points will be issued as a barcode and sent to the email address you registered with.

You will then need to go to a No 7 till point with your Advantage card and barcode to register your points to your Advantage account.

You have to redeem your points on the day they were issued and you will be rewarded for recycling 5 items in a 24 hour period.

Obviously if you want to recycle more – you can, you just won’t receive any additional points on that same day.

What can I recycle?

The scheme is aimed at hard to recycle plastics so you should check your local recycling information as Boots will only accept packaging that can’t be recycled from your household collection.

What if there aren’t any stores near me?

If you don’t live near any of the participating stores it might be worth hanging on to a few empties for the next time you’re visiting one of the larger areas with a store that’s taking part.

If not, you can still find recycling points at your local stores – you just won’t get the reward points.

Anything else?

The trial is in it’s early stages so the app/website is a bit glitchy.

Overall though, it seems like a great incentive.

Hopefully one which they’ll roll out nationwide.

Have you used the Boots Recycling Scheme yet? What did you think?
