I haven’t set myself any resolutions this year. There’ll be no giving up anything or unrealistic expectations. Instead I’ve set goals. Strong, solid goals that will not be easier to achieve, but with a plan are still in my grasp. Alongside this, I’ve seen a lot of people talking about their ‘word of the year’ – a word to live by and think about during the year ahead.
I decided my word for 2019 would be create. It encompasses so many different things to me and really resonates with the lifestyle I am trying to…wait for it… create for myself.
So with that in mind, I thought I would spend a little more time explaining what it really means to me and how I intend to imply it to my year ahead.
Elise is at an age now where she’s really developing her own little personality. She’s taking her first steps and I can’t wait to start going on days out and watching her run around and play. We’ve always taken her out since the day she was born, so she’s an absolute diamond when we go anywhere but I’m looking forward to her not being stuck in the pram and to seeing her little face light up when we go and see different things.
Last year I managed to get a lot of things sorted and bring the house under control. I decluttered the kitchen and now when it gets messy it literally takes a few minutes to bring it back into order. I want to continue with this and go back through and reassess the areas I’ve already decluttered to see if there’s any areas I could improve, streamline more and organise to make my life easier. There’s still a number of areas in the house that get messy easily and clearly their systems are just not working, so I need to make them work for our home. Less time repeatedly tidying the same things over and over, more time for the fun stuff.
Our household thrives on routine, if we don’t have a plan we will inevitably slump on the settee in front of crap tv for the entire day/night. Routine just helps everything run smoothly. I like planning and I like the feeling of being super productive that a good routine provides me. I’ve also got an extremely busy lifestyle and if I want to have the time to do all the things I want to then things need to be more structured. Gym sessions need to be planned in and diarised, as does blogging and content creation – both things which I want to give more time to but are the first to fall by the wayside when I’m feeling overwhelmed.
Following on from my last point, it’s important that I create time to spend working on my blog and social medias. I’ve wanted to start a blog for so long and it’s something that I really enjoy, and the difference is clear when I am consistent in producing. I made a commitment to ;post on the blog twice a week but I also need to put time into my other channels to ensure I’m maximising my blogs potential.
One of the main drivers behind everything is of course money. I’d love to say I don’t care about money but when it dictates the lifestyle you can live you kind of have to care about it.
I want to create an income that allows me the flexibility I want for time with my family. I want to be able to take maternity leave and not feel pressured to rush back to work and worry that I’m missing all the big milestones in my baby’s life. I want to create passive income, so that should the worst happen and we’re not able to go to a job, we have a fall back. Creating a diversified income gives us the security that I don’t think traditional jobs are able to offer anymore.
I used to be such a creative person and I’d like to get some way back to that. Creating just to create and not pressuring myself about the end result. Creating something just as a bit of me time instead of spending that time watching trash tv.
What’s your word for 2019 and how do you intend to live by it?
